Click to contactSammie has been with Common Ground since 1999. Under her leadership Common Ground has grown to serve 1,800 participants each year with over 280 activities, a 65% increase in number of people served! When she is not in the office the best place to find her is mountain biking, back country skiing, or walking her two dogs.

- Special Events Coordinator
Click to contactLisa is from Montreal, Canada. She is best known in Logan for her participation in Cache Valley Gardners' Market's various special events. She can be seen riding her bike around town with her two fabulous children in tow. Lisa is excited to be organizing Common Ground's three major fundraising events.

- River/Destination Trip Manager
Click to contactBryce Patten has always loved the outdoors. He was very active in his Boy Scout groups, earning his Eagle Scout award. Bryce volunteered on many trips that Common Ground put on last year and now is very excited to be working for the organization. When Bryce isn’t working you can find him out on the mountain looking for wildlife or out on a lake fishing .

Click to contactFrom the Gulf of Alaska to the Gulf of Mexico, Matt has worked on farms, disaster relief, boats, and political campaigns since 2004. Matt uses hiking, paddling, climbing and scouring the local thrift stores for cheap vinyl as valid excuses for not working.

- AmeriCorps VISTA 2008
Click to contactEmily moved from St. Paul, Minnesota. She is excited to be doing Outreach and Volunteer Services for Common Ground this year. Emily loves being outside, particularly in a canoe on a big blue lake. She just graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with degrees in Political Science and Women's Studies, which has taught her to value social justice and activist work. She is looking forward to exploring what Logan and Utah have to offer.

Click to contactKristen graduated in May 2007 from the University of Alabama with an interdisciplinary degree in Therapeutic Recreation. She is excited to join Common Ground's adaptive downhill snowsports program as an AmeriCorps* volunteer. She will be combining her love of the outdoors and her passion for working with people with disabilities. When she is not working, Kristen is looking forward to exploring Logan and the surrounding area!

Click to contactErin graduated in 2005 from the University of Missouri - Columbia with a degree in Finance. After a short career in banking she decided to do what she really loves, being outside. Erin enjoys backpacking, road trips, baking, cliff jumping and rope swings.

- AmeriCorps 2007
Click to contactMeg graduated from BYU Idaho with a degree in Recreation Leadership. She has experience in river guiding, bike repair and many other outdoor activities. She is joining us to work with Common Ground’s programs and destination trips. In Meg’s spare time she can be found building herself a canoe.

- Volunteer
Jim Boone has been a dedicated volunteer since the program began in 1993. There are few things that Jim doesn't know about, but his specialties include building and maneuvering boats, gardening, and fixing bikes. In addition, if you want to know anything about the Bear River talk to him, since he edited the book on it.

- Volunteer
Mike is a Logan, UT native who has been involved with Common Ground for several years. Many of the day to day functions around the office would be impossible without Mike's continued assistance. Thanks Mike!

- Adaptive Ski Instructor
Tony has enjoyed skiing since he was 4 years old! He was a ski racer from the age of 10 until he was 39 and has been a ski instructor for the past 30 years. He has been involved with Common Ground since he moved from Truckee, CA, about a year ago. Tony, a father of four, has coached numerous sports, including skiing, soccer, and baseball. His favorite part of working with Common Ground is seeing how happy participants are at the end of a ski day!

- Adaptive Ski Instructor
Born and bred in Memphis, TN, Carey is an avid outdoorsman and has been skiing for the past 20 years. He fell in love with the west while fighting fires in Yellowstone in 1988 and moved to Logan in 1990. Carey attended USU as part of the College of Natural Resources and is a wildlife biologist. Carey has been a part of the adaptive ski program for two seasons now!

Volunteers are the lifeline of Common Ground Outdoor Adventures. We need caring and encouraging individuals to help us with every activity. Outdoor experience or experience with working with people with disabilities is not required to volunteer with Common Ground. All local activities are free for volunteers; there may be some cost on destination trips. To learn more about helping Common Ground contact the office or email
